Does your website need a redesign? Are you unable to invest in a full redesign right now? Speak to your web designer, who can recommend options for refreshing your website without fully redesigning it. Here, we look at some simple ways you can update your website design on a budget. Sometimes simply updating your home page can update your image.
Update your website design on a budget with small changes that make a big difference
First, consider website usability and goals. What do you want your visitors to do when they land on your website? Is information easy to find, or is your website cluttered? Make a plan based on your findings here. Modernizing your website design may be as simple as making your navigation easier to use, and your calls to action clearer.
Next, look at your page layout. Compare with other websites you like. Is your layout outdated? Could you make some small changes to the layout that would make your website feel more modern? Think about the information you present and how it’s presented: image sizes, menu presentation, and putting your most important information front and center.
What about your fonts? Were they in style 10 years ago, and seem dated now? If so, ask your designer what more modern fonts might mesh well with your design.
How are your graphics? Are your images up to date, and do your graphics feel new and fresh? Consider whether it’s worth having a photographer come take some photos of your organization for use on your website.
Take a look at this example from Community Initiatives. They made some minor changes:
- Made the logo smaller and changed its position.
- Added a darker gray row below the red menu bar to contrast more with the main image.
- Used a new script typeface to add a tagline. This also draws more attention to the image, and gives a fresh, modern look to the site.
